The saga of the photos

On Thanksgiving day I almost had a huge photo disaster. Long story short, the computer had aquired a nasty something. Virus, Malware infection, whatever. It got it from the boys who like to play "Free Addicting Games" Nothing is free, and these games came with a huge price. The price being the complete demise of my computer. It didn't KILL the computer by wiping out the hard drive or anything, it infected it with so many pop-up's hocking anti virus software that I could NOT get it to log on and it would constantly crash. Ironic. I think what it does, is, infect your computer with a virus then get you to buy their product to stop it. Clever huh? Anyhow, we decided not to be held hostage by these nasty people but instead wipe the hard drive clean and start over. Back in March I did a huge backup of my photos, but before Dave wiped it clean I needed to do another one to get the rest of the summer photos. It wasn't working. Everytime we turned on the computer we had to fight with the anti-virus pop-up's and actually had to start and re-start the computer numerous times. Finally I hear Dave Yelp "get here NOW it's working" I manage to do some backing up and Dave do his vudo and the computer is a blank slate again virus and all.

Leap ahead 2 days. Time to upload the photos onto clean slate of my computer. I do. Only about 1/2 the photos show up. I guess the virus or whatever, kept us from backing up everything. I would pull up a file that I knew had say 10 photos in it, but only 1 would be there. Panic sets in. WTF happened? It's like 1am and I panic. Dave is asleep and does not care. Not care that over 6 thousand photos are missing? Half of Jeffrey's life and ALLLLLLLLL of Jasons life, ( first half of Jeff was on film, we switched to digital about the time we got Jason)were GONE! I did a total backup of Picasa before we killed the hard drive so I could not figure out what happened. I go in and get the backup I made earlier in the year and thank you JESUS, (not being rude here I really am thanking Jesus) they all restored. I do NOT know nor care what happened but I got them back.

So now I'm in total photo mode. I am doing a whole photo project. I am printing ALLLLL digital photos and putting them in albums. I will back up every year on it's own not enmass. Last summer I started and almost finished putting the film photos in albums and I'm well on my way to finishing that.

it's the new year Change the batteries in your smoke dectors and BACK UP YOUR PHOTOS!! OH, also, I am going to try to post all the photos on the website as a 3rd backup. but only as I go along not all at once. If anyone cares to view them I will link to it. This is mostly for fun.

My one and only new years resolution

I am swearing off Disneyland for the whole year. Enough is enough I am burnt out. If through some fluke I am able to get my ever increasing butt to Florida I will happily go to Walt Disney World, but not Disneyland.

Hoping everyone has a much better 2009. All hell did seem to break loose this year.

You did WHAT?? Umm... Why???

I put the TV in the fireplace. (insert above title to post here___________)Ok, let me explain. This house is too small to begin with, and getting smaller as the boys get bigger. I grew up in this house as you know, and I don't ever remember having this much trouble with space. Of course back in the 70's you had 1 black and white tv and that was it, (color if you were lucky) Or you had a sterio console system that contained the turn table, speakers, and a place to house your record collection, all in a neat little cabinet. No computers, game systems, printers, fax machines, DVDs cable boxes, and all the rest. So I was getting ever more irritated by the cramped cluttered mess that was the corner of my living room. And don't get me started on the stupid fireplace that takes up most of 1 wall. Also, in addition to the 2 huge windows on either side of the fireplace, there is hardly anyplace to put a TV and all the junk that goes along with it. Add a sofa and loveseat end tables and you can see how cramped it all gets. SOOO in a birthday fit (I am allowed to throw one on my birthday) I got mad and told Dave that we had to do something to save space around here. That the fireplace is totally DEAD space, ( we NEVER use it for a fire too cheap to have it cleaned and apparently it has a dangerous crack in it) and we really need to put a flat screen TV on that space. However, we both agreed that it was not in the budget eventhough they are on sale and a good price. Long story short (too late I know) after deciding that cutting apart the TV stand on the Big Black TV was too much trouble, he says "hey how about if we shove the one in the garage in the fireplace. It will fit and most of it's butt will be inside so it will take up hardly any space" "OK" so we did. Ya know what? It actually looks pretty good! It fits the space we cleaned up the imfamous corner and I didn't have to spend $$$ on a TV that we really did NOT need!

happy new year

In Twinkling of an eye....

it was all over. Christmas morning that is. The boys got up at the stupid crack of dawn, 7am. Lately they have been sleeping in to at least 8:30 but not today. Dave said he would try and hold them off until 10 but I said forget it. I couldn't sleep anyway, (woke up at 6 couldn't go back to sleep) and I couldn't relax knowing everyone was sitting around tapping their fingers waiting for me. SOO up I got at 7:30,just like every other school day. I dolled out the gifts and in about 10 mins it was over. Jeff got exactly what he wanted some overpriced Star Wars lego set, and jason got a couple star wars toys too. By 8:05 I gathered up the wrapping paper they sat down and it's been quiet ever sense. It's 1:10 now and I'm bored, and tired. I put in the turkey so I can't go anywhere. Oh well I guess I'll work on my photos.

peace out

Disneyland

slowly getting the hang of this.

Why?

First of all, I need to invite more to my blog. Actually I did. I told my sister in law, whom I LOVE dearly, that I started a blog and gave her the link. Her first response was "why??" I was not expecting this response. My reply was "umm, why not?"I think this is a good time to define what can be expected of my blog. First off, I am not a writer. I know writers, both Lisa's (Lisa K for work, and Lisa N for the love of writing) and my sister. I will write what I feel like, good or bad. Probably just random thoughts, hopefully not too boring. I am also a terrible speller. You can expect creative spelling. I will do my best to not offend but with the hectic nature of my family, ya get what ya get. I think this blog will most likely be my place to vent what's going on at home and life. I will try to be generic so as not to offend anyone but sometimes I get irritated and I may rant.

I had a few names for the blog that I did not use. 2 Kids and a cat, 2 Guates and a Granny, The Janette Gazette. I finally decided that I wanted it to be more about the goings on in the Monteil family so I settled on Monteil Minutes. So I guess you can expect to hear about , the goings on of the Monteil Family, much like the Hamlet report.

Today is Christmas Eve. Have a wonderful Christmas, stay warm and stay safe. Light a candle for those not with us this year, either overseas, or in Heaven, I know a few.
